Most cities have active expat WhatsApp groups organized by neighbourhood or interest, along with broader Facebook groups covering job leads, housing, and general questions. These move faster than forums and are usually where you’ll actually hear about a meetup happening this week rather than a general resource page. Ask at your coworking space or hostel for current group invites, since the useful groups change over time and a name that was active a year ago may not be now.
Language exchanges solve two problems at once #
A language exchange (intercambio) gets you practicing Spanish and meeting Colombians in the same activity, which is a more natural entry point into local social life than trying to network with locals directly. The honest tradeoff between expat and local circles #
It’s easy to end up socialising almost entirely within the expat bubble, since it’s lower friction and doesn’t require Spanish fluency.
